Electro-Physics 3 (Fall 2003) |
|||
Course code : | EELF3-U01
ECTS Credits : | 10 | Status : | Compulsory |
Revised : | 04/11 2003 | Written : | 08/08 2001 |
Placement : | 3. semester | Hours per week : | 8 |
Length : | 1 semester | Teaching Language : | Danish and English |
Objective : | To give the students a basic understanding of Electro-Physical concepts so that they will be able to solve problems in electricity and magnetism relevant for engineers. The student will be able to: -Determine electrical and magnetic fields in simple cases. -Determine electrical potentials from knowledge of the electric field. -Determine magnetic fields from knowledge of the electric current. -Determine capacitance and inductance as well as make assumptions and approximations critically. -Determine the induced electromotive force using Faraday’s law and explain the physics of the transformer. -Explain the basis for electrostatic and magnetic shielding. -Explain the concepts: Magnetic polarization, Eddy currents and hysteresis. |
||
Principal Content : | Electric field; Gauss"s law; electric potential; capacitance and dielectrics; magnetic field and magnetic forces; Ampre"s law; electromagnetic induction; Maxwell"s equations; magnetic materials; eddy current; hysteresis.
Teaching method : | Classroom teaching with exercises, combined with a larger assignment carried out in groups.
Required prequisites : | -
Recommended prerequisites : | -
Relations : | KRA3 | ||
Type of examination : | Look under remarks
External examiner : | Internal
Marking : | Scale of 13 | ||
Remarks : | An oral examination of the group members will be held, where the mark is partly given on the basis of the the course assignment and its presentation, and partly on the basis of an individual oral examination of the group members in selected exercises/problems.
