Objective : The aim is to give students a basic knowledge of standard programs for computational purposes and to give an introduction to database design and the use of databases in information systems.
Principal Content : Introduktion to the basics of the PC:
main hardware components, operating system and file organization.
Spreadsheet:
Introducing the student to a Windows based spreadsheet (Excel). Basic applications of Excel with a special concern for engineering problems.
Databases: Introducing the student to a windows based Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), Access 2000. Basic principles of database design. Development of a simple database. Basic SQL programming.
Teaching method : Exercises, assignments and class teaching. App. 80% of the allotted time will be used on practical problem solving with the PC.

Remarks : Compulsory assignments must be delivered on time and approved in order to pass the exam.
