Physics-2 (Fall 2003)

Principal Content : Pressure in liquids, buoyant force. Temperature, thermal expansion, calorimetry. Ideal Gas Law, Dalton’s Law. Humidity. The first law of thermodynamics. Isobaric, isochoric, isothermal and adiabatic processes.
Kinematics on differential and integral form, motion with non-constant acceleration. Uniform circular motion.
Motion of rigid bodies. Torque, moment of inertia and angular acceleration. Rotation with constant angular acceleration. Rotation about a moving axis. Angular momentum. Work, energy and power. Statics.
Periodic motion. Hook’s law. Simple harmonic motion. Elastic potential energy. The pendulum.
Teaching method : Lectures combined with exercises in major groups. Laboratory exercises in groups. Each group has to write a report on each laboratory exercise using a word processor/spread sheet.
Interdisciplinary project (physics and computer science).
Each group has to make a presentation of the interdisciplniars project on a PC using known presentation tools or may in stead use overheads.
The student may hand in exercises every week.

Required prequisites : Participated in the examination in FYS-1 (Physics-1), MAT-2 (Mathematics-2).
