Objective : The aim is to give students a basic knowledge of power electronic components, models and applications.
Principal Content : Protection of Power Semiconductors.
Thyristor, IGBT and Power MOSFET:
Physics, static and dynamic behaviour.
Gating circuits.
Line-Frequency Phase-Controlled Rectifiers and Inverters:
Basic converters and their main features, continous and discontinous conduction, commutation and line distortion.
Voltage source converters:
Basic topology, Pulse-Width-Modulation and applications: DC-AC converters, variable speed drives, static var compensators.
Introduction to EMTDC.
Teaching method : Class-based teaching and laboratory work.
The laboratory work consists of 20-30% of the course.
Required prequisites : ELN2, ELTEK2, ELTEK3 and EFYS2 must be passed.
Recommended prerequisites : The students must simultanously attend MASK1 and STYRE2.

Remarks : In order to sit for the examination the laboratory work must be approved by the teacher.
