Objective : | The student must obtain gain mathematical and physical knowledge and understanding of the items mentioned below. Futhermore the student must develop the ability to use mathematical and physical methods in the solution of engineering problems. | ||
Principal Content : | Mathematics: (50%) - Functions of one or more variables. - Linear equations and matrix calculation. - Differential equations closely connected with the work of the civil engineer. - Harmonic oscillations. - Fundamental statistical concepts.. - Descriptive statistics. - Distribution functions. - Regression analysis. Mechanics: (25%) - Newton´s laws used on particles and solid bodies in linear and curved movements. - Conservation rules for energy, momentum and angular momentum. - Physical units for work, heat, energy, power, force and pressure. - Hydraulic calculations of filled tubes. Thermodynamics (20%) - Heat transfer in walls and tubes. - Moisture in the air and in constructions -I-x diagrams. EDP: (5%) - Solution of mathematical problems by means of MathCAD. - Spreadsheet for calculation of heat losses in houses. | ||
Teaching method : | Theory, exercises. Solution of at least seven engineering exercises. EDP must be used en the solution of some exercises. | ||

Remarks : | The course is evaluated at two examinations. Exam 1: Oral examination and projects. The evaluation is given on the basis of the oral examination, which has its starting point in some exercises covering the content of the course. Exam 2: Written examination. To pass the examination the mean value of the two marks from examination 1 and 2 be at least 6 without rounding up, and none of the marks must be below 5. | ||
