The student will get a knowledge of the structure of fixed and mobile nets and propagation aspects (fading, reflections etc.) of mobile channels.
Principal Content : Fixed net telephone and data transmission. ADSL, VDSL and multicarrier modulation. High speed data transmission. Wireless communication, Bluetooth, WLAN – 802.11. General GSM and UMTS systems. Cell structure. Registration and location update. Roaming. Radio interface. TDMA structure. FDMA - frequency hopping systems. Planning of mobile net. Teaching material : We will try to make our own textbook by finding relevant material on the Internet and in textbooks. The Sklar book “Digital Communications” used in DCM and DCEC is used as text in part of the course. Introduction to Wireless Systems by P. Mohana Shaukar. Wiley 2002. ISBN 0-471-3216-2 possibly will be chosen - decided by the students when we start.
