|||
Course code : | EDIGE1-U1
ECTS Credits : | 5 | Status : | Compulsory |
Revised : | 28/09 2007 | Written : | 28/08 2007 |
Placement : | 1. semester | Hours per week : | 4 |
Length : | 1 semester | Teaching Language : | Danish |
Objective : | -Purpose: To learn some fundamental concepts, theories, components and methods inside the field of digital electronics. Through project work, to ensure practice and absorption of the topics mentioned under “Principal Content”. Through project work, to strengthen general engineering qualifications and procedures: Cooperation, time planning, specification, analysis and design, simulation, verification of models, hardware construction, test, documentation. Learning outcomes: The student must be able to: 1. Use concepts, theory, components, methods and tools introduced in the course. 2. Design, calculate, analyze, model, simulate, construct and test digital hardware. 3. Plan, specify, cooperate, document and use relevant engineering terms and language. 4. Relate specifications, calculations, simulations and measurements and draw clear and relevant conclusions. 5. Hypothesize the reasons for differences between simulated and actual results and discuss the hypothesis from relevant theory or from relevant simulations and test. Grades are given as follows: 02 For a minimum of basic knowledge and routine corresponding to the learning outcomes points 1. 7 For knowledge, routine and behaviour corresponding to the learning outcomes points 1 to 3. 12 For knowledge, routine, behavior and reflective skills corresponding to all the learning outcomes points 1 to 5. |

Principal Content : | -Binary and hexadecimal number systems, Boolean algebra, truth tables, combinational circuits, flip-flops, sequential circuits including counters and state machines. Programmable logic devices (PLD). VHDL-program structure for combinational and sequential digital circuits including state machines Structural design using block diagrams and/or structural VHDL description. Test combinational and sequential digital circuits.
Teaching method : | -The teaching is a combination of class teaching and exercises. The teaching is based on a number of assignments which are mandatory and carried out in groups. |
||
Required prequisites : | -
Recommended prerequisites : | -
Relations : | -EDIG1 is a prerequisite for all the following study modules in the field of digital electronics, and TVP4E.
Type of examination : | Look under remarks
Remarks : | -The student activity is evaluated through the whole course and given the grade passed/not passed at the end. The pensum is part of the EDIG2 examination at 2. semester. The students must carry out a number of mandatory exercises and tests. In the beginning of the semester the students form their own project groups. The group size should be 3-5 students. Students that have not formed a group, before a deadline set by the teacher, are considered to be inactive in the group work and do not pass the course XILINX WebPack is used as a tool for designing digital electronics. |
