Satellite technology (Efterår 2007)

Kursuskode : ESATT-U01
ECTS Point : 7,5 Status : Tilvalg for den valgte retning
Revideret : 01/10 2007 Oprettet : 01/01 1996
Placering : 5-7 semester Timer pr. uge : 4
Længde : 1 semester Undervisningssprog : Engelsk

Målsætning : - The objective of the study module is to provide an introduction to and overview of a satellite system. The system as a whole will be considered, thereby introducing all the significant aspects which must be considered when designing or contributing to a space mission.

The student should be able to:

Use concepts, theory and methods introduced in the course.
Develop and use mathematical models of satellite systems as introduced in the course.
Analyze, design and simulate a satellite based system.
Plan, specify, cooperate, document and use relevant engineering terms and language.
Relate specifications, calculations and simulations and draw clear and relevant conclusions.

Hovedindhold : The fundamentals of satellite communication will be covered, including the satellite and its environment, achieving and maintaining the orbit and communication with ground stations.
Topics include:
Astrodynamics
Space Environment
Attitude and Orbit Control
Telemetry, Tracking and Command
Power Supply
Thermal Control
Mechanisms
Communications
Ground Stations
Reliability
Propulsion
Undervisningsform : The teaching form will consist of a series of lectures and a course assignment undertaken in groups with approximately half the available time spent on each.
Krævede forudsætninger : Documented knowledge corresponding to TVP4.
Anbefalede forudsætninger : DCM/DCEC
Relationer : -
Prøveform : Mundtlig evaluering på grundlag af kursusopgaver
Censur : Intern
Bedømmelse : 7-trinsskala
Bemærkninger : - The evaluation is based upon the curriculum, the assignment, the presentation of the assignment and an individual examination.

Before the examination the group presents the assignment with each student giving a 5 minute, well prepared presentation. It is required that the group coordinates the presentations such that the assignment’s main topics are covered and that each presentation is different and has a broad technical content.

Each student is then examined individually. The assessment is based upon the level the student has reached in respect to the course objectives. This is derived from an overall impression of the report, the oral presentation and the assignment completed.
During the examination, the teacher and external examiner pose questions arising from the presentations and report.
A total of 20 minutes per student is allocated for examination.

Students following the Danish line are allowed to hand in reports in Danish.
