Objective : The aim of the course is to provide a general knowledge of calculation, designing ,analysis and testing of turbomachines particularly centrifugal pumps, radial and axialfans.
Principal Content : Fluid mechanics: -Dmensional analysis -Similarity - Viscosity - Laminar and turbulent flow - Friction loss
Turbomachines: - Classification and performance - Design study - Fundamental similarity considerations
Specific speed: -Energy transfer between fluid and rotor - The Euler turbine equation - Energy transfer between fluid and rotor - -Velocity triangles
- Impulse and reaktion - Specific speed
Turbomachine with radial flow: - General analysis - Energy transfer - Efficiency - H-Q characteristics - Cavitation, NPSH - Impeller constuction -
-Volute casing - Vaneless difuser - Diffuser-vane casing.
Turbomachine with axial flow: General analysis - Energy transfer - Efficiency - Characteristics
CAD- design of the rotor of a radial pump ( math-cad and Pro-ing)
CAM - manufactoring of the rotor design
Laboratory testing of the rotor design.
Teaching method : The teaching is based upon class teaching and a compulsory project which is to be completed in groups of two students. The project is to be documented by a report including a laboratory test.
