Objective : To achieve knowledge and skills in the industrial design process:
- industrial design methodology
- design theory
- 3-D plastic modelling
- theory of aesthetics
- presentation techniques
- model building
- sketching techniques
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
• analyse and compare existing products with a focus on form, texture colour and function
• Apply user-focused research methods
• identify design related problems and needs
• select and apply relevant tools in the different phases of the industrial design process
• design a basic product guided by the principle of: humanization of technology
• build a full scale 3D model of a selected concept
• describe and apply basic design methods
• work both independently and in a group on design and sketching assignments
• argue for a selected design solution
Principal Content : Lectures on the industrial design process, design experience, research for design, ideation, usability, design innovation, brand design, aesthetic theory, and introductory design history. Sketching exercises. Presentation of assignments. Case studies.
Teaching method : Lectures, assignments and presentation of assignments. Case studies.

Relations : Project 1, Product Design, Visual Communications & CAD.
Type of examination : Oral examination based on assignments

Marking : 7 step scale
