Simulation of Production Systems (Fall 2008)

Objective : To provide the student with a theoretical and practical insight in the potential of using computer simulation og production systems and to create an understanding of implementation of simulation projects in the company. This implies problem formulation, data gathering, construction of models, simulation experiments and documentation of results.
Principal Content : The course is divided in 4 phases: I. Lectures II Active learning III Excersises IV Project work The lectures will cover theoretical topics and introduction to simulation tools. Subsequently, a basic experience with contruction of simulation models and simulation analyses is obtained by means of solving practical problems. In parallel the students will carry out a theoretical study. A central part of the course is a manufacturing company-based project where the student in teams of 2 persons will implement a substantial simulation task.
Teaching method : The course is organized in teams/groups cooperating and solving cases in conjunction with the project. Further, both the teachers and the student will present theoretical topics in plenum.
