Construction pits, Tunnel Construction and Port Design (Fall 2012)

Length : 1 semester Teaching Language : English if English students are present

Principal Content : Overview of the subject of the course. The course assignments and projects of the course are chosen within these subjects.
Compulsory:
1. Construction Pits:
Design and Construction
Stability of bottom, slopes and walls.
Dewatering systems
Retaining walls (inclusive special walls)
Anchoring and propping of walls
2. Tunnel construction
Tunnel types:
-Cut and cover.
-Immerged tunnels.
-Bored tunnels.
Tunnel structures:
-Top- and bottom slab.
Driven walls.
In-situ walls
3. Port Design
Loads on Offshore structures.
Types of Ports, planning and layout.
Design and calculation of structures in Ports:
Breakwaters and piers.
Berth Structures:
Sheet pile walls, anchor slab, stability of Berth Structures.
Equipment:
Fenders and bollards.
Teaching method : Presentations and assignments, leading to the course project
Students presentations and discussions. Self tuition.
Excursions.
Course Projects are carried out in groups of 2 - 4 students.
Decision on the course project is decided upon by the professors after proposal from the students.
Supervisors contribute to the group formation that integrates foreign and Danish students.
Required prequisites : The student shall have past all the theme courses.
