Objective : Objectives:

To introduce the basic concepts of statics and mechanics of material.
The course treats the fundamentals of mechanics, and the students will learn to analyse and calculate stiffness and strength of simple structures and their sub-components, including the influence of material properties.

Content:
The course will address themes that are fundamental for static calculations on mechanical systems and will provide an understanding of the strength relationship in mechanical designs.

• Equilibrium,
• freebody diagrams of structures, frames and truss’
• Distributed loads
• Sectioning methodology

Mechanics of materials
• Fundamentals of mechanics of material: Deformation, strain, stress, laws of elasticity, shear and moment diagrams
• Analysis of shaft, poles and beams
• Normal stress
• Shear stress
• Axial load
• Torsion
• Strain and deformation
• Moment of Inertia
• Shear modulus
Teaching method : The students will follow lectures with exercises.
