Electro-Technique (Efterår 2012)

Kursuskode : EET5-U1
ECTS Point : 7,5 Status : Tilvalg
Revideret : 11/09 2012 Oprettet : 16/09 2011
Placering : 5-6. semester Timer pr. uge : 12
Længde : 1 semester Undervisningssprog : Engelsk hvis der er engelsksprogede tilstede

Målsætning : To give the student an understanding of selected electro-technical concepts. The course describes calculation of magnetic circuits, voltage, current and power in 1-phase circuits and symmetric 3-phase circuits, equivalent diagram for a transformer and a motor. The student achieves a fundamental understanding of some important high power circuits and components in electro technique. After the course, the student will be able to work with basic electro-technique tasks in relevant companies or research groups.

The student should be able to explain the learning goal in written form in the small tests and in the compendia and in oral form at the exam:

1. Compendium (homework for the group).
Written explanation of the theory and examples using figures and questions in the presentation list. For each chapter, there is one compendium.
It is mandatory to hand-in all compendia and to participate in all the presentations.

2. Final oral exam using the presentation list and the compendium.
a. Scanty explanation of the very most fundamental subjects
b. Rather good explanation of many fundamental subjects
c. Almost perfect explanation and derivation of all subjects

Hovedindhold : For each of the chapters in the course there is a detailed list, the presentation list, of learning goal including formulas, figures and examples. A presentation list is a list of small figures and questions summarizing the most important subjects of a chapter. It is used by the student as a plan for presentation of a chapter in written and oral form. Hence the presentation list plays a key role in the course.

1. Repetition of basic relevant circuit theory (ch.4).
2. Calculation of voltage and current in a steady state sinusoidal circuit (ch.9).
3. Calculation of power in a steady state sinusoidal circuit (ch.10).
4. Basic balanced 3-phase circuit (ch.11).
5. The transformer (equivalent diagram for an ideal and a real transformer, transformation of impedance, measurement of parameters for a real transformer, 3-phase transformer).
6. The DC motor.
7. Calculation of magnetic circuits.

Undervisningsform : Two classes per week (in total 6 hours).
Teacher presentation of theory, examples and experiments.
Student presentation of subjects from the presentation list.

Homework and group work (about 6 hours a week).
Preparation of the compendia and training in presentation.

A short version of a chapter including theory, figures, examples and experiments. It is written by the group as an answer of the questions in the presentation list for that chapter. During the semester the groups should hand-in a compendium for each of the chapters in the course. The group members present subjects from the presentation list when they hand-in the compendium.

Krævede forudsætninger : Electrophysics (10 ECTS point course EELF3) .
Anbefalede forudsætninger : Complex functions and basic vector calculations.
Relationer : The course may be used for further studies at the high power study line. High voltage devices, electric machines, transformers. Circuit Theory and Analog Electronics Control Theory (project using a DC motor) Switch Mode Power Electronics (the project includes construction of a transformer)
Prøveform : Se under bemærkninger
Censur : Intern
Bedømmelse : 7-trinsskala
Bemærkninger : Each group must write a compendium for each chapter. Each compendium should be hand-in and presented in right time, and then approved by the teacher to enter for the exam.
The groups are formed the first day in the class. The group size could be 3-5 students. It is mandatory to work in a group.
A student, that does not work actively in a group, and is not present three times at the group presentations, are considered to be inactive in the group work and may be refused to enter for the exam.

The grade is based on the 7 step scale (12 is maximum)
2 is given for fulfillment of learning objectives 1,2a
7 is given for the fulfillment of learning objectives 1,2b
12 is given for the fulfillment of learning objectives 1,2c

The exam is oral and individual. There will be no time for preparation.
The student picks a number corresponding to a chapter number. The student then presents the chapter using the compendium made by the students. It should take 15-20 minutes. Then the teacher and censor ask questions related to the selected chapter or other chapters in 5-10 minutes.
Undervisningsmateriale : Web-based teaching material produced by the teacher.
The notes and compendia produced by the students themselves.
