Målsætning : | To provide students with skills to complete the engineering design project from the specification to the working model of the specified product. The results should be described in a report, which is the part of the assessment. PROE4 trains the students in following skills: - to plan their own workload, - to manage engineering design problems from the specification to the working model, - to manage more than one solution to the design problem, - to study new subjects independently, - to keep agreements - to implement technical solutions into working model - to communicate clearly both orally and in writing - to work with big engineering projects in a team - to co-operate with others in team. The PROE4 project challenges the students to find individual solutions to engineering problems. The “correct” solutions to the problems in PROE4 do not exist. The student must be able to: 1. Use concepts, theory, components and methods introduced in the course. 2. Develop and use the engineering design methods including mathematical modelling and control theory as introduced in the REG4E-course. 3. Design, calculate, analyze, model, simulate, construct and test complex systems including control theory, microcontroller(s)/ digital hardware, analog hardware and software. 4. Plan, specify, cooperate, document and use relevant engineering terms and language. 5. Analyze specifications, calculations, simulations and measurements and draw clear and relevant conclusions. 6. Analyze the reasons for differences between simulated and actual results and discuss the hypothesis from relevant theory or from relevant simulations and tests |

Hovedindhold : | PROE4 is the integrated project form, where students work in teams. The aim of the project is to design and implement an autonomic mobile robot, executing the tasks as described in the specification of the project. To support the technical aspects of the project, supervision is given within the subjects: analogue and digital electronics, practical robot-building. |
||
Undervisningsform : | In PROE4 the students work in teams (the project groups), which consist of 4 to 5 students each. The formation of the groups has to be done during the first week. The formation of the groups is students’ own responsibility, because teamwork and cooperation are among objectives of this course. Each project group has a project supervisor.
Krævede forudsætninger : | Documented knowledge similar to all previous (1,2,3 semester) courses. REG4E should be taken the same semester or before taking PROE4.

Bemærkninger : | Oral examination based on a project. For students taking PROE4 and REG4 the same semester, there will be common examination (PROE4 and REG4E). External, oral examination based on a project. 7 step scale Grades are given as follows from a general impression and are based on the report, the presentation, the demonstration (the functionality of constructed system and hardware/software) and the individual exam: 02 For a minimum of basic knowledge and routine corresponding to the learning outcomes point 1 to 4. 7 For knowledge, routine and behaviour corresponding to the learning outcomes point 1 to 6. 12 For knowledge, routine, behaviour and reflective skills corresponding to all the learning outcomes point 1 to 6. For further information, please refer to the general description of markings. Usually it is not possible for any student to complete PROE4 project alone. The possible exemption could be to retake the course or due to some extraordinary circumstances. In such cases, an application should be sent to the Council of the Department (Sektorrådet) together with all supporting information/reasons. The project should be completed using components available from the component store. The chassis handed out must be used for the mobile robot, equipped with motors and batteries. Deviations from these conditions have to be approved in advance by the supervisor, concerned on the basis of a written application from the project group. The progress in the project is evaluated during the semester, in accordance to the project scheme (milestones), in accordance with the plan made by the group and approved by supervisor at the beginning of the semester. The supervisor has the right to refuse admission to the PROE4 examination for his/her group, if the agreements, regarding the progress of the project are not kept. At the examination each student is allocated 15 minutes (PROE4 only) or 30 minutes (REG4E and PROE4). The group presents the project by giving well-prepared presentations. The group is required to coordinate their presentations in such a way that the major aspects of the project are covered, that the presentations are different and that each individual presentation has a good technical span. Next is the individual examination, see also REG4E-Remarks for oral examination. During the evaluation by the supervisors and the external examiner, all members of the group leave the room. Afterwards the students, one by one, come in and get explained their individual marks. After that the whole group is gathered and their teamwork and project results are commented by supervisors and external moderator. If a student doesn’t pass the examination, guidance on how to improve the chances of passing is given. |
