Objective : To give an introduction to the planning and follow-up assignments a production engineer will meet in primarily production companies.

Learning objective:
The student will acquire knowledge about the methods and terminology used in a production company.
A large part of the terminology is based on APIC “body of knowledge”.

The student shall be able to calculate and choose the best methods for planning of the production, stock and purchase when considering the economy, service demands and quality demands.

The student shall master several different methods of evaluating production lengths.
Principal Content : Forecasting;
General production planning;
Methods-time measurement (stop watch studies, frequency studies);
Time planning tools (Gantt, CPM, PERT)
Production plans and follow-ups;
Capacity calculations;
Storage facilities including assessment of one or more stores;
Level of service;
Production planning according to MRP, TOC, JIT and Lean;
Short introduction to quality control and demands for production control
Teaching method : Lectures, exercises and discussions.

Type of examination : Four hours written examination

Marking : 7 step scale
Remarks : All aids allowed at the examination except PC and mobile phone.

Class exercises and lab exercises are compulsory.
