Målsætning : | The acoustics concerns daily life situations as: Today microphones Different mobile devices have integrated loudspeakers and microphones. The life is influenced by sounds from our surroundings and products or living rooms acoustical performance. We are listening to music more or less the whole day. Sometimes older people needs hearing aids for getting the sounds understandable and of a quality which full fill the needs. After participating in this course you should be able to: • describe fundamental acoustic concepts such as the sound pressure, the particle velocity, the speed of sound, the characteristic impedance of the medium • describe and interpret acoustic energy balance considerations in a room and setup experiments for measuring the reverberation time • describe the behaviour of a capacitive microphone or a dynamic loudspeaker in the linearly range using appropriate models and simulations • suggest appropriate types of microphones for sound recording • describe the structure of the ear and explain its function • sketch the hearing threshold in a free field (dB SPL-Frequency) and interpret the course of the curve from measuring the threshold. • define and describe the concept of loudness and loudness level • describe and explain the concept of masking (simultaneous-, pre-, post-, forward- and backward-) and it’s relation to the function of the inner ear - setup experiments for masking • describe the basic principles of perceptual audio coding (i.e., MPEG) and explain how the concept of auditory masking is thereby utilized • describe the principles of sound localization and setup experiments • make acoustical sound measurements and simulation within the topics above. Marks: 2 for fulfilling the define describe objectives with some defects 7 for fulfilling the define and describe objectives with minor defects 12 for fulfilling all the objectives. |

Hovedindhold : | Introduction to sound fields, Room acoustics - reverberation. Psychoacoustics (hearing threshold, loudness, masking, etc). Speech and speech intelligibility. Linear models for microphones or a loudspeaker.
Undervisningsform : | Overview lectures with discussion, student’s presentation and assignments, a self chosen problem covering some of the subjects above. One visiting at an audio company. App. 50% of time is left for group work on compulsory experiments with reports about: room- acoustic, psychoacoustic, and a problem chosen by the group. Focus can be changed with the content dependent on students wishes |
||
Krævede forudsætninger : | 2nd semester must be passed and math skills like 2nd semester math
Anbefalede forudsætninger : | Interest and e.g. experiences within the audio-field
Relationer : | - | ||
Prøveform : | Mundtlig evaluering på grundlag af kursusopgaver
Censur : | Intern | ||
Bedømmelse : | 7-trinsskala
Bemærkninger : | At the examination each student is allocated app. 30 minutes. The examination is individual. At the exam the student presents one of the assignments and the related theory and then drags a question within the curriculum. The evaluation is based on a general impression of the level achieved by the student assignment reports relative to the objective of the course and on the oral performance. After the presentation the supervisor and the examiner poses questions inspired by the presentation and the curriculum. If the student doesn’t pass the examination, the student is given guidance on how to improve the changes of passing. |
