Electronic Noise and Analogue modelling (Forår 2004)

Kursuskode : EENAME-U01
ECTS Point : 7,5 Status : Tilvalg for den valgte retning
Revideret : 20/02 2004 Oprettet : 15/03 2002
Placering : 5-7 semester Timer pr. uge : 4
Længde : 1 semester Undervisningssprog : Engelsk hvis der er engelsksprogede tilstede

Målsætning : ENAME expands the knowledge of analogue electronics to include non-linear components with large and small signal analysis and to understand noise in electronic circuit and systems. This allows the student to model and design complex electronic circuits and systems, to explain and calculate noise mechanisms in electronics circuits and systems, to calculate satellite transmission problems, signal-to-noise relations, link and power budgets. Finally EMC related matters are introduced to supplement the practical part of the lab-designs to be made in the study module. The study module provides an understanding of the subjects and allows the student to continue studying the literature within the field.
Hovedindhold : 1. Modelling of physical components for simulation (large and small signal behaviour, noise) 2. Design, calculate, simulate and measure electronic circuits with non-linear components and design, calculate, simulate and measure low noise amplifier designs 3. Define noise factor, noise figure and noise temperature for an electronic design 4. Understand circuits with signal to noise problems, calculate link budget. 5. Understand the implication of practical layout problems (EMC) at low and high frequencies.
Undervisningsform : The curriculum consists of overview classroom sessions combined with group work of 3-4 small practical design/measuring sessions related to the behaviour of physical components, linear and non-linear circuits and noise in circuits.
Krævede forudsætninger : Math, Analogue and digital design equivalent to 4th semester level.
Anbefalede forudsætninger : -
Relationer : ENAME is mandatory to participate in Wireless communications hardware (WCHE) or satellite communication (SATT) ENAME is a good supplement for understanding high frequency design (TLAE)
Prøveform : Mundtlig evaluering på grundlag af kursusopgaver
Censur : Intern
Bedømmelse : 13-skala
Bemærkninger : Exam will be oral based on the reports and curriculum The groups will hand in reports/measuring journals for each practical session which must be accepted to attend the exam. The curriculum comprises all subjects stated in the reading list, all Homework and all theory and techniques used in the course assignments. At the examination each student is allocated 15 minutes. The examination is a group examination but the marking is individual. The evaluation is based on a general impression of the level achieved by the student relative to the objective of the course. The evaluation is based on the reports and on the oral performance. Each member of the group presents a subject from the reports. The duration of the presentation is approximately 5-7 minutes. The group is required to coordinate the presentations in such a way that the major aspects of the curriculum are covered; that the presentations are different and that each individual presentation has a good span. After the presentation the supervisor and the external examiner pose questions inspired by the presentation and the curriculum. The questions are a priori individual but may – if found relevant by the supervisor or the external examiner – form the basis of a broader group discussion. During the evaluation by the supervisor and the external examiner, the project group leaves the room. Afterwards the group is summoned and the individual marks are explained. If the student doesn’t pass the examination, the student is given guidance on how to improve the changes of passing.
