Objective : The aim of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the fundamental rules of thermodynamics in such a way that they are able to solve common technical problems.
Principal Content : -- Common basis Thermodynamic state variable. Volume, pressure and temperature. - Work, internal energy and heat. Thermodynamic systems, processes and change of states. Internal energy, enthalpy, heat and work. Energy transfer as work. - The first law for control mass and control volume systems. Change of state for an ideal gas Cycles without phase change. (Ideal gasses) Gas turbines Combustion engines - The second law Reversibility and definition of entropy. Definition of efficiency - Pure substances. Phases and phase change. Change of states. Thermodynamic properties of steam. T,s and h,s- diagrams for water.
Teaching method : Class teaching, assignments, homework.
