Digital Control Systems (Spring 2005)

Course code : EDCSE-U01
ECTS Credits : 7,5 Status : Optional for specified Programme
Revised : 27/05 2004 Written : 31/01 2002
Placement : 5-7 semester Hours per week : 4
Length : 1 semester Teaching Language : English if English students are present

Objective : The objective of the study module is to enable the student:
To analyse and design classical digital controllers to continuous processes.
To apply state-space variable method to describe the dynamic systems.
To investigate the stability of digital control systems.
To design advanced digital controllers, like pole-placement controllers for industrial processes.
Apply MATLAB and SIMULINK for simulation and analysis of digital control systems.
Principal Content : Sampled data systems
Frequency analysis of the sampled data systems
Analysis and design of the digital PID controller
State-space description of dynamical systems
Controllability and observability
Stability of discrete control systems
Pole-placement control
Reference input control
Estimator design

Using MATLAB and SIMULINK in design process MATLAB and SIMULINK are used as simulation tools with the goal of supporting the learning process.
Teaching method : Classroom teaching, exercises, simulation and design of the advanced controller for the industrial process.
Required prequisites : Documented knowledge corresponding to TVP4E and DSM4
Recommended prerequisites : -
Relations : MSDE, DEDS
Type of examination : Approved labs/assignments
External examiner : Internal
Marking : Passed/Not passed
Remarks : A mark passed/not passed will be based on approval of the exercises during the semester, and a final controller design assignment.
Teaching material : Norman S. Nise: "Control System Engineering", John Wiley & Sons
Responsible teacher : Anna Friesel , anfri@dtu.dk
