Objective : | To give the students enough and necessary scientific knowledge in available materials used for mechanical engineering and design, which make it possible for them to make a well founded material selection. | ||
Principal Content : | The interaction between material, function, process and shape. The headlines for the materials selection procedure are following: Requirement analysis Requirement - /function profile Properties profile Environments aspects including recycling Economic aspects. Accessibility (availability) Introductions of the different types of materials Metals - Ceramics - Polymers - Elastomers - Glasses - Composites. Structures of the different types of materials. Interaction between structure and properties. |

Teaching method : | Theory. Small projects based on self-selected subjects. Individual presentation during the semester in plenum. Final project (Group or individual project) |
