Probability and Linear Algebra (Spring 2006)

Objective : To impart to the student knowledges of basic principles and methods in the use of probability, statistical distributions and linear algebra and using this to solve engineering problems.
Principal Content : Matrix algebra
Linear systems of equations
Functions of several indepandent variables
Method of least squares
Probability
Normal, binomial, poisson and hypergeometric disstributions
Estimation, confidence intervals and tests for one dimensional random variables.
Teaching method : Classroom teaching, exercises and problem solving.
There will be 3-4 afternoons with exercises in MathCad.

Marking : Scale of 13
Remarks : 4 Hours written examination which count 80% of the final mark. 20% comes from evaluation of the delivery of two sets using MathCad.
This is a common course for P, M. and EP.
About one third of the course is math-teaching and two thirds statistic-teaching.
