Objective : The aim is to give the student a knowledge of the basic principles and fundamental concepts of modern information technology, so that the student will be able to assess the technology and the way of thinking behind the ways of displaying information, that one encounters especially on the internet. These objectives require a knowledge of relational databases and some basic programming skills.
Principal Content : The objective will be carried through with the following subjects:
• Introduction to basic internet concepts
• Composition and design of static internet pages.
• Introduction to the relational database model
with simple SQL programming.
• Composition of active internet pages, that based
on the content of a database. will be dynamically
updated each time the page is visited.
Teaching method : Class based teaching combined with laboratory work. The laboratory work comprises about 85% of time, and consists of work at the computers.

The students are organised in groups of ideally 4 students at the opening of the course. There will during the course be given a number of minor exercises and one major task. At the end of the course each group shall deliver a report based mainly on the major task. The minor exercises are placed as appendices to this report.
Just before the examination each member of the group shall give a presentation. It is mandatory that the group has coordinated this presentation in such a manner, that each contribution is distinct and has a suitable professional scope, and that all essential topics in the project are covered. The whole presentation should last no more than 15 minutes. All members of the group are present during this presentation.
The actual examination is individual, and will last about 15 minutes. During this individual examination the teachers and the examiner will ask questions that are inspired of the report and the presentation.
