Objective : | To enable the student to understand and use the fundamental principles of coding and error correction in modern communication systems as modems and wire- and wireless transmission over physical channels. | ||
Principal Content : | Baseband transmission, Detection of information buried in AWGN, Probability of error, Matched filters, Intersymbol interference, Shaping of signals, Channel capacity, Channel coding, Modern forms of error correction coding, Link Budgets. System tradeoffs. | ||
Teaching method : | Class teaching with active participation by the students. The teaching is given as a combination of daily lectures and problem solving in class. Some of the items in the curriculum will be illustrated by using demo-programs. | ||
Required prequisites : | Documented knowledge corresponding to DSM3 or DSM4. | ||
Recommended prerequisites : | Linear Algebra and Adaptive Filters (LAAF) | ||
Relations : | The course is closely connected to the curriculum in DCM which profitably can be followed in the same semester. | ||

Remarks : | The oral examination is based on a number of small problems from the curriculum. The whole list of problems is handed out at course start. Before the examination each student is given 30 minutes for preparation of his/her specific question. | ||
