Applied Mechanics 2 (Forår 2009)

Kursuskode : ME-MEC2-U1
ECTS Point : 5 Status : Obligatorisk
Revideret : 24/03 2009 Oprettet : 24/03 2009
Placering : Third semester Timer pr. uge : 4
Længde : 1 semester Undervisningssprog : Engelsk

Målsætning : To provide the student with a fundamental understanding of dynamic phenomena in mechanical systems. To enable the student to apply the laws of mechanics to the analysis of mechanisms and balancing of machines.

A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
• Use kinematical relations to describe and analyze rectilinear and curvilinear motion of particles.
• Describe and analyze the kinematics of rigid bodies, linkages and mechanisms.
• Draw free-body diagrams for plane motion of particles and rigid bodies.
• Determine work of external forces, moments and couples.
• Apply the work-energy principle for plane motion of particles and rigid bodies.
• Apply the principle of impulse and momentum for plane motion of particles and rigid bodies.
• Describe and analyze the kinetics of linkages and mechanisms.
• State and analyse static and dynamic balancing of machines.
• Read engineering literature on mechanisms and dynamics of machinery.
Hovedindhold : Kinematics of particles and rigid bodies. Kinetic energy, linear and angular momentum. General equations of motion of particles and rigid bodies. Work-energy relations. The principle of impulse and momentum. Kinematics and kinetics of linkages and mechanisms. Balancing of Machines. The LabView software “DAMA” generates computer simulations and animations to help the students visualize the motion of mechanisms and vibrating systems.

Undervisningsform : The teaching is based on “learning by doing”. There will be introductory and summing up lectures. Project work in small groups includes tutorial exercises, computer simulations, use of internet search engines and case studies.
Krævede forudsætninger : -
Anbefalede forudsætninger : Applied Mathematics 1, Applied Mechanics 1.
Relationer : Oral examination based on a number of course assignments. The final evaluation of each student will be based on an assessment of the presentation of assignments.
Prøveform : Mundtlig evaluering på grundlag af kursusopgaver
Censur : Ekstern
Bedømmelse : 7-trinsskala
Bemærkninger : This course is closely related to the project in the 3rd semester, and is an integrated part of the study program “Engineering Design & Industrial Innovation” offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. It is primarily for students enrolled in the program.
