Vehicle Dynamics (Forår 2010)

Kursuskode : ME-VED-U1
ECTS Point : 5 Status : Tilvalg
Placering : 6. semester Timer pr. uge : 4
Længde : 1 semester Undervisningssprog : Engelsk

Hovedindhold : The emphasis of the course is on the analysis and evaluation of the performance of cars and trucks Students will build and numerically integrate the Equations of Motion for their own vehicle models following a crawl-walk-run principle. Their models will by the end of the course be capable of simulating limit maneuvers including combined braking and turning. Fundamental as well as advanced vehicle dynamics terminology will be introduced such as Under steer Gradient, Characteristic versus Critical Speed, Roll Center, Roll Stiffness Distribution and different tire models and their limitations with respect to real tire performance. Furthermore, the course will cover the mathematics behind the stability of their derived vehicle dynamic systems. Skills needed in basic dynamics, basic ordinary differential equations, and the ability to integrate differential equations numerically. The students will be introduced to an advanced dynamics simulation software for use in class assignments as well as other projects the students might have involving dynamics.

Undervisningsform : The teaching is based on "learning by doing". There will be introductory and summing up lectures. Project work in small groups includes tutorial exercises, assignments, and computer simulations.
Krævede forudsætninger : Applied Mathematics 1 (ME-MAT1) and Applied Mechanics 2 (ME-MEC2) or equivalent.
Ansvarlig underviser : Imad Abou-Hayt , iabo@dtu.dk
