Objective : Through instruction and workshop training, the students will be able to:
• Characterize manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, grinding and drilling on the basis of practical exercises.
• Explain the principles and use of these processes, and use them in a workshop environment.
• Explain and use a number of measuring methods and instruments for the determination of length, roughness and angles.
• Acquire knowledge in using tolerances.
A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to:
• Obtain practical knowledge about important manufacturing processes
• Be introduced to the use of technical drawings as a means of communication in the industry
• Achieve a practical insight into geometries that various processes can be used to make
• Have an introduction to fundamental measuring methods that are commonly used in production technology.
• Acquire knowledge of the factors that determine geometric tolerances and surface quality
Principal Content : Instructed practical workshop training including operation of machine tools in relation to turning, milling, grinding, drilling and filing etc. In addition, measuring instruments will be used.

Evaluation of experiments.

The course is given in a schedule free afternoon in the 1st semester. It is primarily for students enrolled in the program “Engineering Design & Industrial Innovation”, offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
