Målsætning : To provide an introduction to, and overview of, a satellite system.
The course will consider the entire system, thereby introducing all the significant aspects that must be considered when designing or contributing to a space mission.
The fundamentals of satellite communication will be covered, including the satellite and its environment, achieving and maintaining the orbit and communication with ground stations.

Learning objectives:
A student who has fully met the objectives of the course will be able to:
•Understand the practical, prysical, and economical aspects og space missions
•Design a small experimental satellite
•Describe the mission environment and parameters
•Design the communication system
Hovedindhold : Astrodynamics
Space Environment

There is a midterm test, which will be a written multi choice test. The midterm test will count for 50 % of the final mark.
The examination at the end of the course will be oral and will be a presentation of the project work. Questions will be posed to the individual student as well as the group.
During the oral examination each student will make a Power Point presentation lasting 7 minutes on a subject from the project. The members of the group must cover different subjects.
During the presentations questions will be asked both to the individual student and the group.
For a group of 5 students the time for the examination will be 1 hour.
Undervisningsmateriale : The course is based upon the book “Spacecraft Systems Engineering” 3rd Edition by Peter Fortescue, John Stark and Graham Swinerd. Wiley 2003. ISBN 0-471-61951-5.
