Placement : 2. semester Hours per week : 4
Length : 1 semester Teaching Language : English

Objective : To give the student an understanding for stationary heat transfer in one or several directions.

As part of the profile of the education modelling of heat transfer in relation to different processes is a key element. After attending the course the student shall be able to:
• Have basic understanding for conduction of heat in one or several directions
• Have basic understanding for free and forced convection as well as determining heat transfer at laminar and turbulent flow conditions
• Have basic understanding for heat radiation
• Have obtained skills for calculation on heat exchanges and understanding for their effectiveness

Principal Content : Hovedindhold : Part 1)
• Heat conduction
• Heat convection
• Heat radiation
• Heat exchangers
• Lab. testing on heat exchangers

Part 2)
• Higher and lower heating (calorific) value
• Mass balances of combustion processes
• Determining combustion air requirements
• Adiabatic combustion temperature
• H,t-diagrams or tables for flue gasses
• Calculations on flue gasses
• Theoretical models for internal combustion engines
• Otto og Diesel engine
• P,v – diagrams with/without flue gasses
• Lab. testing with engine and generator

Teaching method : The course comprises a number (15) of teaching lessons (of 4 hours each) in which the above-mentioned teaching goals shall provide for the above-mentioned competences at the students. As part of the teaching the students shall do a number of small assignments and problems in relation to the course content. The nature of the teaching is determined in connection with the semester planning, and the students shall be provided with a curriculum for the entire course as well as recommendations for literatures etc.
Required prequisites : TERMO 1 passed
