| Objective : | The student must based on the architects project gain knowledge and understanding of the initial phases of the engineering design and choice of materials. The student must be able to participate in the overall design of a complex building and the consideration of the construction planning. The student who has met the course objectives, are at the final exam able to: • Analyze and describe a selected building project, based on an architects project • Make proposals, analyze and evaluate different solutions for the building"s overall design, including structural system • Analyze and determine the overall areal requirements for technical installations and rooms • Based on a over all plan for construction to do a calculation • Reflect on and motivate chosen solutions • Present and explain the group cooperation focusing on the interaction between international students and Danish students |

| Principal Content : | Overview of the subject of the course, aiming at achieving an overall design based on the architect’s proposal. - Determination of the building statics according to architectural design as well as the main principals for technical installations, selection of building materials - Determination of loads and dimensions of primary building structures. Documentation of vertical load and of horizontal stability of the building - Assessment of solution for foundation, taking geotechnical information into account - Determination of requirements for fire resistance and assessment and integration of fire safety requirements - Assessment of heating and ventilation systems and lay out for technical supply - Calculation of construction on the building component level - Review of Concept, analysis and evaluation of possible improvements to own and colleagues" concepts. |

| Teaching method : | Presentations and assignments, leading to the course project Students presentations and discussions. Self tuition External professionals. Excursions. Study tour Course Projects are carried out in groups of 2 - 4 students. Supervisors contribute to the group formation that integrates foreign and Danish students. |

| Remarks : | The assessment is based on the course project carried out during the course, and a presentation and discussion about the project, related to the professional subjects of the course. For groups mixing exchange students and Danish students the evaluation will also focus on differences in group members" professional, linguistic and study cultural background, as well as the group"s initiatives to overcome these differences. | ||
