Objective : To acquire skills and knowledge in a major area of mechanical engineering, using both technical and non-technical considerations, where the quality of the project work is the main issue.
A student who has met the objectives of the project will be able to:

• Demonstrate independent critical reflection on the contents and objectives of the mechanical engineering programme.
• Apply technical knowledge to real-life complex problems.
• Acquire a holistic understanding and use non-technical aspects.
• Use knowledge and experience from the engineering practice and other elements of the study programme.
• Carry out an engineering project for or in cooperation with a company.
• Make a timetable for the completion of the various steps of the project.

Principal Content : The Bachelor project is to be done for or in cooperation with a company, either in Denmark or abroad. Relevant technical topics and engineering methods. Nontechnical considerations and assessments. These can be

Teaching method : Project supervision for independent groups. The students are allowed to get supervision from DTU teachers, company experts and other institutions. The Head of the Department will allocate one or more supervisors for each project group. The project group should keep the supervisor(s) updated on the progress of the project. Project work in groups of two students. Each student in the project group is responsible for both the project as a whole and own contribution to the project.
By approval of the Head of the Department project work in groups of one or three students is also permitted in special cases.
Required prequisites : All the obligatory courses and semester projects should be passed. In addition, 25 ECTS points of optional courses should be passed and the engineering practice should be approved.
Relations : The Bachelor project should be related to the major topics of the mechanical engineering programme.

Remarks : The assessment of the project will be based on the final report as well as on the project presentation and the conversation with the external examiners. In addition, the student communication skills will be assessed and constitute 10% of the final grade. Each student of the project group should elaborate on his or her contribution to the project.
Teaching material : Will be based on independent literature research.
