Objective : The aim of the engineering practice is to provide the student with profound knowledge and practical experience in a major area of mechanical engineering at a company, located either in Denmark or abroad. The student should have the opportunity to combine practical mechanical engineering design methods with the theoretical courses followed at the college in an interdisciplinary context. The student should be able to gain experience in the company culture, design methods, sales and marketing methods, and the application of engineering sciences.
A student who has met the objectives of the engineering practice will be able to:

• Demonstrate independent critical reflection on the contents of the engineering practice period.
• Apply technical knowledge to real-life complex problems.
• Acquire a holistic understanding and use non-technical aspects.
• Use knowledge of some basic topics of the mechanical engineering programme in the various aspects of the engineering practice.
• Perform the tasks set by the company in order to complete the engineering practice period.
• Write a technical report about the tasks performed and the experiences gained, during the engineering practice period.
Principal Content : The engineering practice has duration of 20 working weeks and should be done at a company, either in Denmark or abroad. The engineering practice should contain one or more of the following areas of mechanical engineering:

- Design and product development.
- Quality control, supervision and maintenance.
- Experimental work and research.
- Technical and economic calculations. Estimation.
- Production and logistics.
- Technical information and service.

In addition, the engineering practice can include nontechnical considerations and assessments. These can be

- Management
- Economical
- Environmental
- Working conditions
- Ergonomical
- Aesthetical
- Ethical
- Social
- Cultural
Teaching method : Normal working hours at a company. Attendance of seminars and meetings required by the company.
Required prequisites : All the obligatory courses and projects in the first four semesters should be passed.
Relations : The engineering practice/internship should be related to the basic elements of the mechanical engineering study programme.
Type of examination : Look under remarks
Marking : Passed/Not passed
Remarks : Written report and dialogue with the supervisor.
Teaching material : Will be based on independent literature research as well as on the company manuals and standards.
