Digital signal processing and mathematics 1 (Spring 2006) |
|||
Course code : | EDSM1-U01
ECTS Credits : | 10 | Status : | Compulsory |
Revised : | 29/08 2005 | Written : | 22/06 2000 |
Placement : | 1. semester | Hours per week : | 8 |
Length : | 1 semester | Teaching Language : | Danish and English |
Objective : | The objective of the course is to enable the student: To apply complex numbers in the description of sinus formed signals. To apply vectors and matrices e.g. in the description and solution of systems of linear equations. Apply differential equations in the description of simple physically systems. Apply frequency response to calculate stationary signals. Comprehend the idea of a series and in simple cases analyse the convergence properties of a series. Apply power series and Fourier series for the analysis and synthesis of functions (signals). Apply MATLAB for simulation and analysis of signals and systems.
Principal Content : | The course is organized into two halves with equal emphasis: Introductory mathematics and Digital signal processing. Teaching digital signal processing has the objective of supporting the learning and application of mathematical topics. Through digital signal processing mathematics can easily be related to the "real world". Main contents of introductory mathematics: -Complex numbers. -Linear algebra (vectors and matrices). -Differential equations (second order with constant coefficients) -Sequences and series. -Power, Taylor and Maclaurin series Main contents of digital signal processing: -Representation of sinusoidal signals using real and complex form. -Spectrum of signals. Continuous-time Fourier series. MATLAB is used as simulation tools with the goal of supporting the learning process.
Teaching method : | Classroom teaching, exercise solving and simulation using MATLAB.
Required prequisites : | None
Recommended prerequisites : | None
Relations : | The compulsory exercises are a part of the semester project.
Type of examination : | Look under remarks
External examiner : | Internal
Marking : | Passed/Not passed
Remarks : | A number of the exercises are compulsory and must be approved in order to enter the exam. The oral exam is individual. The student will be given a case study 3 days before the examination, which covers the curriculum. The case study will be used as a starting point at the oral exam.
