Objective : | To give the student an understanding of the special behaviour and characteristics of design, choice of materials, calculations and construction of bridges. The student should gain professiency in making a project design of multi span bridges, working with a footbridge in reinforced concrete and a road bridge in prestressed concrete. The student that meet the objectives of the course, is at the final exam capable to: • Analyse and describe a chosen bridge project • Analyse and assess different types of bridges, considering the use, physical conditions, structural design, construction methods • Analyse and calculate loads on definite and indifinite road girders • Analyse, assess and calculate bridge structures in reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete. motivate the choice. • Explain the groups cooperation. |

Principal Content : | Structural behaviour of bridges and choice of structural materials . Loads on bridges. Bridge, superstructure: Struc tural design. Lay out of Cross Section. Calculation of internal forces and Bearing Capacity for beams and slabs in reinforced and prestressed concrete. Bridge, substructure: Columns (with influens of moments and normal forces, M-N-diagrams), foundations and supports. Bridge, equipment: Baerings, expansion joints, isolation. Construction of bridges under consideration of the existing conditions. Repair and maintenance of bridges. |

Teaching method : | Prsentations and assignments. Students presentations and discussions. Self tuition. In Project works the students are working in groups of 2-3 persons. In one of the Project works the subject is chosen by the student, to be approved by the professor |
