Course code : | BBRO-T3-U1
ECTS Credits : | 15 | Status : | Optional |
Revised : | 14/05 2013 | Written : | 14/01 2010 |
Placement : | 6.-7. semester | Hours per week : | 0 |
Length : | 1 semester | Teaching Language : | English if English students are present |
Objective : | To give the student an understanding of the special behaviour and characteristics of design, choice of materials, calculations and construction of bridges. The student should gain professiency in making project design of multi span bridges, working with a footbridge in reinforced concrete and a road bridge in prestressed concrete. To give the student an understanding of problems working with renovation of existing bridges: bridge inspection, bridge maintanance and bridge reconstruction concerning both design and construction and also proficiency in design related to maintanance and reconstruction. The student that meet the objectives of the course, is at the final exam capable to: • Analyse and describe a chosen bridge project • Analyse and assess different types of bridges, considering the use, physical conditions, structural design, construction methods • Analyse and calculate loads on definite and indefinite road girders • Analyse, assess and calculate bridge structures in reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete. Motivate the choice. • Reflecting and giving arguments for chosen solutions. • Explain the group’s cooperation, focusing on the interaction between international students and Danish students |
||
Principal Content : | Structural behaviour of bridges and choice of structural materials. Loads on bridges. Bridge, superstructure: Structural design. Lay out of Cross Section. Calculation of internal forces and Bearing Capacity for beams and slabs in reinforced and Prestressed concrete. Bridge, substructure: Columns (with influents of moments and normal forces, M-N-diagrams), foundations and supports. Bridge, equipment: Bearings, expansion joints, insulation. Repair and maintenance of bridges. Working with a chosen bridge renovation project. |
||
Teaching method : | Class teaching and project works. Self tuition. In Project works the students are working in groups of 2-4 persons. In one of the Project works the subject is chosen by the students to be approved by the professor. Supervisors contribute to the group formation that integrates foreign and Danish students. |
||
Required prequisites : | The student must have passed BYG-2, BYG-PRO, INF-2, INF-PRO
Type of examination : | Oral examination based on assignments
External examiner : | External
Marking : | 7 step scale | ||
Remarks : | The assessment is based on the course project carried out during the course, and a presentation and discussion about the project, related to the professional subjects of the course. For groups mixing exchange students and Danish students, the evaluation will also focus on differences in group members’ professional, linguistic and study cultural back ground, as well as the group’s initiatives to overcome these differences. |
