Objective : The course should create capabilities so the students can participate in preparing strategic analyses in industrial companies and furthermore it should enable the participants to contribute in developing production strategies on the basis of an understanding of the company´s competitive situation. After completing this course it must expected that the student can: A) Demonstrate understanding of strategic terms and models of importance for the competitiveness of an industrial company. B) Contribute to analyses of the company´s strategic and competitive situation through applying these terms and models. C) Participate in creating strategic options to enhance the competitiveness of the company and discuss the consequences such options will have to the company´s production and technology.
Principal Content : Strategic analysis of the company´s environment. Assessing and developing the resources, competencies and the strategic capability of the company. Segmentation and differentiation strategies. Creation of strategic options, strategy evaluation and strategy selection.
Teaching method : Lectures, discussions, group tasks/projects and written reports. Students presentation of company- and industry-cases in an integrated part of the course.

Remarks : Making an oral case-presentation is an compulsory part of the course.
